Ames High School Drama Department presents “Up the Down Staircase”

 Ames High School’s Drama Department performs Christopher Sergel’s adaptation of “Up the Down Staircase” 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the Ames High Auditorium. Admission is $4 for students and $5 for adults.

The play is based on a book written by novelist Bel Kaufman in 1965.

It tells the story of how Sylvia Barrett’s idealism as a first year English teacher clashes with the absurd bureaucracy of a big city high school.
