Ames High Teacher is National EPA Winner

Mike Todd an Ames High School Science teacher received the Presidential Innovation Award for Environmental Educators.

Mike Todd's efforts to engage his environmental science students in community projects has earned him the 2013 Presidential Innovation Award for Environmental Educators.

The national award honors teachers who use “innovative approaches to environmental education” and teach students using the environment, according to a release.

Since 2008, Todd has received $20,000 in grant funds to buy equipment that students use to monitor a pond and a manage a prairie, according to a report by the Associated Press.

As part of the award Todd and the school will receive $2,000 each to further environmental education.
