Moses Nathaniel, 57, called police about 6 a.m. on Jan. 4 saying that a woman stole $300 from him, according to police reports.

Police found the accused prostitute, Tanya Coleman, 47, of Des Moines, a few blocks from his Maxwell Avenue home, police records state. She told police that she met Nathaniel in Des Moines and agreed to come to Ames and have sex with him for $100, the report said.

Compounding the problem, Nathaniel admitted to paying the woman for sex, police records said. Both were charged with prostitution, an aggravated misdemeanor under Iowa law.

The maximum penalty if convicted of prostitution is two years in prison and a $6,250 fine.

Since this story ran: the case against Nathaniel was dismissed but Coleman pleaded guilty to the prostitution charge.
