An Ames man faces multiple felony counts as a result of an investigation into a shooting at a Mortensen Road apartment that happened in April.

Eddie Williams, 27, was charged Friday afternoon, with two counts of felon in possession of a firearm, a Class D felony, possession with intent to deliver marijuana, a Class D felony, failure to affix a drug tax stamp, a Class D felony, reckless use of a firearm, fifth-degree criminal mischief and making false reports to law enforcement.

Williams told police on April 7, that he was alone in a Mortensen Road apartment when another man came in and tried to shoot him, police said. Williams had said that a gun went off during the struggle firing a bullet through his apartment wall, into a shared hallway and through the wall of a neighboring apartment. But police believed that Williams fired the gun into a mirror and lied about it, according to criminal complaints.
Β A woman and a child were also in the apartment at the time, according to complaints.

When police went to arrest Williams on charges related to the shooting at a Gateway Hills Park Drive address about 4 p.m. Friday, June 21, a resident there wouldn't let police inside, said Ames Police CMDR. Geoff Huff.

So a warrant was obtained and police ultimately found Williams in the apartment, Huff said. While searching for evidence related to the April shooting, police discovered eight bags of marijuana, digital scales and a .25 caliber Beretta in a backpack in the bedroom, police and complaints said.
Huff said the gun found in the backpack is not believed to be the gun used in the April shooting.

Jerra Magnuson, 22, who leased the apartment was also charged with possession with intent to deliver marijuana and failure to affix a drug tax stamp both Class D felonies which are punishable by up to five years in prison each.

Williams was in the Story County Jail Tuesday on a $15,000 bond. Magnuson was released from Story County Jail Monday on her own recognizance. Williams is the same man who was treated for a stab wound at Mary Greeley Medical Center in January. The wound required surgery and Williams would not provide police with information about the injury at the time.
