Ames Man Racks Up 4th Public Intox Charge and Interference with Official Acts
An Ames man was charged with public intoxication and interference with official acts after he allegedly tried to resist his arrest by headbutting and kicking at police officers.

A young Ames man racked up his fourth public intoxication charge in Campustown recently.
According to criminal complaints, Iowa State University police saw a 25-year-old man urinating on a sidewalk near Welch Avenue and Hunt Streets about 2 a.m. Nov. 24. The officer spoke with the man and noticed that his eyes were watery and bloodshot and he had the smell of alcohol on his breath, complaints said.
When the officer asked him if he had anything to drink the man replied, βA lot.β The man also said he was drunk when the officer asked him if he was feeling the effects of alcohol, according to complaints.

Things got worse for the man when he tried to avoid his arrest for a charge of public intoxication by wrapping his arms around a fence and tried to headbutt the officer, complaints said. He also resisted being put into handcuffs, tried to kick at another officer and refused to sit in the patrol car, complaints said.
The man was charged with public intoxication, fourth offense; and interference with official acts and taken to Story County Jail.

The man had been charged with public intoxication once in 2008 and twice in 2009, complaints said.
