Ames Police Blotter: Aggravated Assault

Police Blotter Jan. 11 to Jan. 15

A woman's message about being β€œchoked out” led to the arrest of an Ames man on Monday.

Joseph Verville, 26, Fifth Street, was charged with aggravated domestic assault/strangulation and child endangerment after his girlfriend's mother asked Ames Police to check up on the couple, according to criminal complaints.

The girlfriend's mother called police after seeing a message or post about her daughter being "choked out", complaints said.

When police went to check up on the couple, the daughter told police that Verville β€œstrangled” her three times, once while she was holding a baby, complaints said. Verville told police that his girlfriend was the primary aggressor in the argument and that he grabbed her by the arms and placed her on the bed, complaints said. Verville was the only one charged. The charges are aggravated misdemeanors.

Lindsay Baker, 22, Council Bluffs, was charged with operating while intoxicated, first offense; and turning from an improper lane at 2:16 a.m.

Mary Breuer, 18, Student Affairs Road, was charged with possession of alcohol under legal age at 12:01 a.m.

Tyler Burdick, 18, Indianola, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia at 12:01 a.m.

Jakob Cory, 22, Vinton, was charged with operating while intoxicated, first offense; at 1:11 a.m.

Andrew Crawford, 20, Welch Ave., was charged with nuisance party regulations at 12:01 a.m.

Jason Fox, 35, Jefferson, was charged with operating while intoxicated, second offense; at 9:35 a.m.

Daniel Gorman, 45, Joy Circle, was charged with operating while intoxicated, first offense; and turning from an improper lane at 1:25 a.m.

Grant Horbach, 19, Ankeny, was charged with possession of alcohol under age at 12:01 a.m.

Benjamin Leiting, 20, Welch Ave., was charged with nuisance party regulations at 12:01 a.m.

Jasmine Means, 18, Ida Grove, was charged with operating while intoxicated, first offense; at 1:20 a.m.

Erik Olson, 19, Storm Lake, was charged with consumption of alcohol by a minor at 12:01 a.m.

Kyle Reimers, 19, Storm Lake, was charged with drug possession/delivery, possession of drug paraphernalia, consumption of alcohol by a minor and open container in a passenger vehicle at 12:29 a.m.

Ethan Smith, 18, Richardson Court, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, at 12:01 a.m.

Caroline Wishon, 20, Denison, was charged with providing false identification information at 3:28 a.m.

James Vandenberg, 19, was charged with consumption of alcohol by a minor, at 12:01 a.m.

Bradley Vanwyk, 59, Top O'Hollow Road, was charged with fourth-degree theft for shoplifting and driving under suspension at 3:19 p.m.

Jan. 14

Jesus Gonzales, 22, S. Second Street, was charged with theft by deception and fourth-degree theft at 10:34 a.m.

Timothy McWherter, 43, Colo, was charged with third-degree theft and fourth-degree theft for shoplifting at 1:30 p.m.

Sarah Saltz, 19, S. Second Street, was charged with providing false identification information at 11:30 a.m.

Joseph Verville, 26, Fifth Street, was charged with aggravated domestic assault/strangulation and child endangerment at 10 p.m. The charges were aggravated misdemeanors.

Jan. 15

Steven Potter, 26, S. 16th Street, was charged with drunkenness/public intoxication at 2:45 a.m.
