An Ames man was charged with assault and harassment of a police officer after he struck a man breaking his glasses, and then gave Ames police officers a false name, according to criminal complaints.
Police went to an apartment building on South Hyland Avenue about 4:45 a.m. Sunday Jan. 27 to investigate a report of an assault. A man told police that he was attending a party when another man hit him several times in the face and head, criminal complaints said. The man's glasses were broken and his face was red and swollen and he also had a bump on the back of his head, complaints said. Police found the alleged assailant Cody Jones, 19, in the rear of the apartment building and the man said that he was the guy who struck him, complaints said. Another person at the party said he saw Jones and the man arguing verbally and saw Jones hit the other man, complaints said.
Jones first told police that his name was Pierre and said he had no ID, but police discovered his true identity when they found Jones driver's license, according to complaints.
