Ames Police Blotter: Intoxicated Man Allegedly Pulls Alarm, Damages Squad Car
Police Blotter Jan. 22 to Jan. 25.

A 20-year-old Ames man was charged with public intoxication, criminal mischief and harassment of public officials and employees after allegedly pulling a fire alarm in a Mortensen Road apartment building and then asking to speak with police. The man later ripped off a squad car's door handle following his arrest, according to criminal complaints.
Austin Bishop allegedly pulled a fire alarm in an apartment building after 12 a.m., and when firefighters arrived told them that he would like to speak with police, complaints said.
The officer who spoke to Bishop said Bishop had watery blood shot eyes, spoke with slurred speech and had trouble focusing on the officer's questions, complaints said. Bishop also gave a fake name to officers when they asked for some identification and later admitted his name was Austin after a neighbor told police the man's real name, complaints said. Bishop was charged with public intoxication and harassment of officials.
