Ames Police Know Identity of Man Who Gave Chase
Ames Police said they know the identity of the man who led them on a chase in a stolen truck last week, but they haven't been able to find him.

Ames Police believe they know the identity of the man responsible for leading police on a chase and ditching a truck in the Skunk River last week.
Police said they believe James Choate, 37, was driving. Once found Choate could be charged with second-degree theft, a Class D felony; driving while barred, eluding, reckless driving and interference with official acts.

About 1:15 a.m. April 24, police tried to stop a 1986 Chevrolet K30 flat bed truck near Dayton and Edison streets, but the driver would not pull over and a pursuit ensued, according to a release.
The driver stopped near Lincoln Way and Carnegie Avenue and let a passenger out before continuing west on Lincoln Way and south on Freel Drive and eventually drove into Skunk River before escaping, police said.

Police learned after the chase that the truck was reported stolen out of Nevada, according to the release.
