Ames Police: Man Choked Woman During Fight
An Ames man faces domestic assault charges after trying to strangle a woman, police say.

A 57-year-old Ames man was charged with domestic assault with intent after choking a woman during a fight, according to criminal complaints.
Ames police talked to both members of the couple and the woman said that Charles Bentley applied pressure to her throat, according to complaints. Bentley told police he was just “trying to quiet the victim down” and had placed his hands on her neck and shoulders, complaints said.
Bentley was charged with domestic assault with intent to cause serious injury, at 2:24 p.m. March 28. The charge is an aggravated misdemeanor. On Tuesday, Bentley remained in the Story County Jail on a $6,500 bond.
