Ames Police Respond to Prank Call With SWAT Team

A prank call about hostages and gunfire brought the SWAT Team to an Ames home where nothing was amiss.

Prank callers told Ames Police on Friday that multiple homes had been taken over by an armed intruder.

In the first instance, about 9 officers responded in SWAT gear and set up a perimeter around the home and pointed their guns only to find out that they had been duped, KCCI reports.

Then the department received a second call about a home in North Ames. And a third call. Police investigated all three unfounded claims, KCCI reported.
