Ames Police: Teen Driver Admits To Drinking, Didn't Realize He Struck a Car
Hit and run driver said he didn't realize he struck a car, police say.

An 18-year-old driver accused of striking a car near Lincoln Way and Grand Avenue, told Ames police that he had been drinking, but didn't realize he'd been in an accident, according to criminal complaints.
The accident occurred about 11:50 p.m. April 20 and the driver reportedly didn't stop, according to complaints. Police stopped the man shortly afterward at 1107 Buckeye Ave. near Red Lobster.
The man admitted to drinking, but told police he didn't realize that he hit another car near Grand Avenue and Lincoln Way, which is why he kept going, complaints said. A passenger in the car said he realized that there had been an accident, but couldn't say why the driver kept going, complaints said.

The teen driver had blood shot watery eyes, slurred and mumbled speech, according to complaints. His blood alcohol level was .114 percent according to a data master test.
Landon Camp, 18, of Winterset, was charged with operating while intoxicated, first offense; and leaving the scene of an accident.
