Ames Public Library Director Finalists Announced - REVISED

AMES, Iowa – Public “meet and greet” sessions have been scheduled for the two finalists for the position of Ames Public Library Director. 

The public is welcome to attend a meet and greet session with Jana Prock, of Keller, Texas, from 4 to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, July 17 at City Hall, City Council Chambers, 515 Clark Ave. Prock has served as the Library Director for the City of Keller since 2007. From 2003 to 2007, she was the Library Director at the Bay City Public Library in Bay City, Texas. Prock was the Manager with the Telephone Reference Department for the Central Library of the San Antonio Public Library in San Antonio, Texas, from 1995 to 2003. She served as a Branch Manager with the San Antonio Public Library, San Antonio, Texas, from 1987 to 1995. From 1983 to 1987, Prock was an Assistant Branch Manager with the San Antonio Public Library in San Antonio, Texas. Prock has a master’s degree in library science from the University of Oklahoma in Norman, Okla., and a bachelor’s degree in secondary education/library science from Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Okla. 

The second candidate for the Library Director position is Interim Library Director Lynne Carey. The public is welcome to attend a meet and greet session with Carey from 4 to 5 p.m. on Thursday, July 18at City Hall, City Council Chambers. Carey has served as Interim Director of the Ames Public Library since July 2012. From 2006 to 2012, she served as Assistant Director. Carey served a Co-Interim Director of the Ames Public Library from 2005 to 2006. She was Division Coordinator from 1991 to 2005. Carey has a bachelor’s degree in psychology/women’s studies from Iowa State University. She attended graduate school at Iowa State University to study counselor education and community counseling. Additionally, Carey has earned graduate credit at the University of Iowa, Iowa City, in library and information science. 

Former Library Director Art Weeks left the Ames Public Library in July 2012. The Library Director reports directly to the Ames Public Library Board of Trustees, which is responsible for hiring a new Director.
