Ames Seeks New Sculpture and Neighborhoods Interested in Displaying Art

The City of Ames is accepting entires for its Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition and applicants for its Neighborhood Sculpture Program.

The Ames Public Art Commission and the Ames Main Street Cultural District have opened their annual search to display sculptures in downtown Ames.

Up to four sculptures would be displayed from May 1, 2013 to May 1, 2014 in the 18th Ames Annual Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition. The artist would receive $1,000 and the Best in Show would receive an additional $500 in the fall of 2013.

According to the call for sculpture, the Commission usually purchases one or two of the sculptures for a sister art program called the Neighborhood Sculpture Program.

In this program three works of art were recently installed at Duff Park, Fire Station #2 and Christofferson Park.

Dice Enticement can be found at Duff Park and Just Between Thieves is at the fire station. Unending Sky can be found at Christofferson Park.

Applications to display works of art from the outdoor sculpture program will be received by the city through Dec. 21. Learn more about that program on the city's website.
