Ames Under Winter Weather Advisory in May

Ames and Story County are included in a National Weather Service Winter Weather Advisory that is in effect until 6 p.m.

The National Weather Service predicts that as much as five inches of snow could fall through the day and another four inches tonight.

Snowfall is expected to continue through Friday, eventually turning to rain.

The sun should return on Monday, according to the National Weather Service.

Today: Snow. Steady temperature around 33. Windy, with a north wind around 21 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent. Total daytime snow accumulation of 3 to 5 inches possible.

Tonight: Rain and snow, becoming all snow after 9pm. Low around 32. Breezy, with a north wind 17 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent. New snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible.

Friday: Snow before 11 a.m., then rain. High near 40. Breezy, with a north wind 17 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Friday Night: Rain. Low around 35. Breezy, with a north wind 14 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. New precipitation amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.

Saturday: Rain likely. Cloudy, with a high near 46. North northeast wind 9 to 14 mph becoming light northeast in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Saturday Night Rain likely, mainly before 8pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 37. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.
