AMES–The Ames Community School District will receive bids for the purchase of the land and building at 1000 Ninth Street in Ames, Ia., formerly known as the Roosevelt Elementary School. Buyers should submit bids on the form provided and send them to the Secretary of the Board of Education, Karen Shimp, by 2p.m., Feb. 15, 2013. Bids should include a brief statement of the Buyer’s proposed use for the property.

The property is located in Ames, Story County, Ia., and includes Lots Nine through 13 in Block 26 in College Park Addition Second North to Ames, Ia., and the north 55 feet of Lot 14, in the same block. The property includes Lots Five through Nine in Block Two in Bairds Addition to Ames, Ia. These lots, totalling approximately 2.2 acres and including the Roosevelt school building on the site, are west of the green space bordered by Ninth Street, Roosevelt Avenue, and 10th Street, and do not include the green space formerly used as an elementary school playground.

 

Proposal Evaluation and Awarding of Bid

The Ames Community School District (the District) will evaluate all submitted bids and choose the winning bid not solely on the basis of price, but also on that which offers the best value for the District in terms of price and any other criteria the District chooses. The District will sell the property without contingencies, with the Buyer responsible for any zoning changes necessary with the City of Ames. Nothing in this bid specification shall be construed as a commitment by the District. The District will provide the potential buyer with an Offer to Buy Real Estate to be acted on by the Board of Directors of the Ames Community School District following a public hearing on the proposed sale. The Offer to Buy Real Estate shall govern the transaction. Closing shall occur no later than 45 days following approval of the sale by the Board. The Board reserves the right to reject any and all bids or parts thereof, and waives all informalities and irregularities in connection therewith if the same is judged to be in its best interest. The property transfer will be by deed without warranty as pursuant to Iowa law. Any proposed sale of the property is subject to final board approval following a public hearing in accordance with Iowa Code section 297.22.
