Beat the Heat from Live Healthy Iowa

From The LINK

Water is a vital component of our bodies, necessary to flush out toxins, carry nutrients and maintain soft, clear skin.

Live Healthy Iowa’s 4th annual Burst Your Thirst Challenge motivates Iowans to team up with friends, family or co-workers to hydrate for a healthy body and an active summer.

Monday, June 17th marks the kick-off of this year’s Burst Your Thirst Challenge. Create a team of 2-10 Iowans and register now at www.livehealthyiowa.org.

Β Kristy Gaunitz, 2012 Burst Your Thirst participant from Lansing said, β€œI was able to give up pop completely and because of this, I have lost over 17 pounds!”

Another 2012 participant, Luann Rowat of Des Moines attributes her improved complexion and heightened sense of well-being to meeting her goal of drinking 72 oz. of water each day.

Throughout the six-week challenge, Iowans compete in a web-based competition tracking water consumption and minutes of physical activity. Each member will report their personal weekly total in an effort to accumulate points and move their team up the challenge leaderboard.

Registration for Burst Your Thirst is $8 per participant and each will receive a challenge water bottle; a weekly email containing hydration tips, healthy recipes and fun summer activity ideas; access to a personal tracking page, recipes and fitness tips on the Live Healthy Iowa website; and opportunities to win Subway gift cards, tickets to the Iowa State Fair, vouchers for Iowa resort getaways and more! 2013 is the fourth year for the Burst Your Thirst Challenge.

In 2012, over 5,000 Iowans participated on 920 teams representing 97 Iowa counties. Participants recorded 8.8 million ounces of water consumed and logged 10.9 million minutes of physical activity.
