Bicyclists Asked for Opinions on Campustown Travels

The Public Works Department wants cyclists' opinions on riding through the Campustown area.

From the City of Ames

Whether you're an occasional recreational bike rider or a serious cycling commuter, the Ames Public Works Department wants to know what you like or don't about riding through Campustown.

Interested cyclists can participate in the online survey by going to this link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/7WTJB9H.

The survey focuses on preferences and opinions on biking in Campustown, which is defined as the area south of Lincoln Way between Sheldon and Ash Avenues.

“The survey asks bikers to share thoughts on items such as how often they bike in the area, how safe they feel, and what amenities would be helpful,” said Operations Supervisor Corey Mellies, Ames Public Works Department.

“We know Campustown experiences a high volume of vehicles, bike riders, and pedestrians. With all these different modes of transportation in a relatively compact space, we are looking for ways to make the area work best for everyone.”

Ames Public Works has partnered with Campustown Action Association to gather data provided by bicyclists. Additionally, information is being solicited from Campustown property owners. Ultimately, the public input will be used to develop potential options to take to the Ames City Council to improve safety and traffic flow in the area, Mellies said. The survey link will be active through Friday, May 10.
