City Of Ames: Ames Police Names Arkovich As New Lieutenant

The Ames Police Department is pleased to announce the promotion of Sergeant Mike Arkovich to Police Lieutenant effective Jan. 1, 2022. Arkovich will fill the vacancy left by former Lieutenant Dan Walter who was promoted to Police Commander on Dec. 1.

Arkovich joined the Ames Police Department in 2005 and was promoted to Sergeant in 2010. The Ames Police Department has three Lieutenants who lead and serve as shift commanders for the three patrol shifts. Among other duties, they provide leadership in strategic planning, quality assurance, quantitative analysis, decision making, problem solving, and departmental research and evaluation activities. Arkovich will be assigned to Shift Three, which operates from 3 to 11 p.m.

Arkovich has a bachelor’s degree from Iowa State University. He previously served for three years as a police officer for the St. Petersburg, Fla., Police Department.

“We are excited to welcome Mike to this new leadership position within our department,” said Police Chief Geoff Huff. “Our lieutenants work closely with our sergeants and officers with a commitment to enhancing quality of life for all of our residents. We know Mike will continue this tradition of serving our community and exemplifying the values of our department.”
