The Ames Police Department is pleased to announce the promotion of Sergeant Mike Arkovich to Police Lieutenant effective Jan. 1, 2022. Arkovich will fill the vacancy left by former Lieutenant Dan Walter who was promoted to Police Commander on Dec. 1.

Arkovich joined the Ames Police Department in 2005 and was promoted to Sergeant in 2010. The Ames Police Department has three Lieutenants who lead and serve as shift commanders for the three patrol shifts. Among other duties, they provide leadership in strategic planning, quality assurance, quantitative analysis, decision making, problem solving, and departmental research and evaluation activities. Arkovich will be assigned to Shift Three, which operates from 3 to 11 p.m.
Arkovich has a bachelor’s degree from Iowa State University. He previously served for three years as a police officer for the St. Petersburg, Fla., Police Department.
