City Of Ames: Assessor Candidates Public Presentations Set

Three finalists have been selected to interview for the position of Ames City Assessor. A public presentation has been scheduled for each candidate, so the public has a chance to meet each finalist.

The City Assessor is responsible for assigning values to all taxable property within Ames’ city limits. An ongoing process of gathering and reviewing information, reviewing and listing new construction, and investigating sales of real estate is used to provide accurate and current values.

The first public presentation will be for candidate Brian Arnold at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 16, in the City Council Chambers at City Hall, 515 Clark Ave. Arnold is currently the Deputy Assessor for Dallas County, Iowa, a position he has held since 2016. He has more than 20 years of appraisal/assessment experience in Nebraska and Iowa. Arnold earned an Iowa Certified Assessors designation from the Institute of Iowa Certified Assessors in 2011 and has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Nebraska at Omaha.

The second public presentation will be for candidate Larry Andreesen at 4 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 17, also in the City Council Chambers at City Hall. Andreesen has worked for Benton County, Iowa, since 1984, first as an appraiser and then as Deputy Assessor beginning in 1987. He has served as Assessor for Benton County since 1990. Andreesen earned an Iowa Certified Assessors designation from the Institute of Iowa Certified Assessors in 2013 and has a bachelor’s degree from Iowa State University.

Arrangements for the public presentation by the third finalist are being finalized and will be announced when available.

The public is invited to attend the public presentations and share feedback on the candidates.
