Learn more about the invigorating, family-friendly winter sport of cross country skiing at a free clinic offered by Ames Parks and Recreation on Saturday, Jan. 15. The clinic will include two parts, one indoor and one outdoor.

Part One of the clinic will be the indoor instructional clinic from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 15, at Homewood Golf Course Clubhouse, 401 E. 20th St. This part will cover skiing technique, gear (including where to buy or rent ski gear), safety, skiing for fitness, and where to ski in Ames.
Part Two of the clinic will be the outdoor practicum clinic, which will immediately follow Part One if optimal snow conditions permit. Part Two will include onsite instruction and gear check, and will be held from 2:15 to 3:15 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 15, at Carr Park, 1704 Meadowlane Ave. If there is not enough snow for skiing that day, Part Two of the clinic will be held on the first skiable Sunday after Jan. 15. Registered participants will be notified via email and information will be advertised on City social media to confirm the date for Part Two.

Ski gear is not provided. If you need gear, please call the Community Center at 515.239.5350 for rental options. It is not mandatory to attend both Part One and Part Two, but it is encouraged. Pre-registration can be completed by phone at 515.239.5350, in person at the Community Center, 515 Clark Ave., or online at www.amesparkrec.org
The Parks and Recreation Department manages 38 parks and offers approximately 180 athletic, aquatic, instructional, and wellness programs. Indoor programs are provided throughout the winter at the Community Center, Ames/ISU Ice Arena, and Municipal Pool.
