Community Invited to Re-Imagine Roosevelt
The developer, who purchased the 1923 school, will host an open listening session and community forum on the school's future Monday at City Hall.
Dean Jensen, of Real Estate Service Group, has invited the community to attend a community forum and listening session on Re-imagining Roosevelt from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at City Hall, 515 Clark Ave.
The developer offered in February the Ames Community School District the highest of two bids for the shuttered Roosevelt Elementary School that was built in 1923. The school board approved the sale this month.
Jensen offered $25,000 for the building and has plans to turn the former elementary school listed on the National Register of Historic Places into condominiums.

Real Estate Service Group's meeting on the school's future is open to the public. The meeting will be held in council chambers. A notice Jensen sent out about the meeting states “The school site has faithfully served the community for nearly 90 years and its future is very important.”
A board committee once recommended demolishing the school which closed in 2005, but area residents fought to save it.
