Congressman King Prefers Obamacare to Immigration Reform
Steve King, who represents Ames in the 4th District, said he would choose Obamacare over the Senate's current immigration reform bill.
U.S. Rep. Steve King, R-Kiron, said this week that he hates the immigration reform currently being discussed in the U.S. Senate more than Obamacare.
“You know how badly I despise Obamacare,” King, R-Iowa, said at a news conference as reported by the Ames Tribune. “But if there was an offer that said you are going to get one or the other and you have to choose one, I would take Obamacare and try to live with that before I’d ever accept this amnesty plan.”

The Senate bill would allow most of the 11 million residents living illegally in the country to become legal residents. An estimated 40 percent of those people came to the United States legally, but overstayed their visas, according to Yahoo news.
The bill would do nothing to contribute to the economy and would “destroy the rule of law,” King said in a statement this week and during a press conference televised by C-Span.

"The 844 page bill, over in the Senate, whether amended or not, in what ways we can anticipate it might be, is still a terrible idea if you look at it from an economic perspective," said King. "At no stage in their lives does the Universe of those who would receive amnesty make a net financial contribution to this country. … It destroys the Rule of Law. And the Rule of Law is an essential pillar of American exceptionalism. Many people come here because of equal justice under the law. If we reward people who break the law, they are unlikely to raise their children to respect it. The Rule of Law, at least with regard to immigration, would be destroyed."
