Ames Native Launches Fund Raiser to Self Publish Poetry

Dallas Moore wants to share his passion and hopes you can help him out by raising the $2,000 he needs to print his first book.

An Ames native intends to publish his own book of poetry, that is, if you want to read it.

Dallas J. Moore, of Social Republick, has gone the way of Veronica Mars and is asking for potential fans to help him out with the book's production.

He's asking for a total of $2,000 by April 11.

KHOI Community radio recently used this fund-raising method by launching a campaign on Kickstarter as did the producers of the Veronica Mars movie project. The site allows people to pledge a specified amount of money that is only collected if the campaign meets its fund-raising goal.

Moore, who currently lives in Des Moines, is asking for support from his fans too, but is using indiegogo.com instead of Kickstarter.

Moore started writing poetry when he was 15 but said the recent loss of loved ones, including his father, inspired him to write more --- enough to compile into a book he's calling “Chaos Mind: Inspiration from Moments of Desperation.”

“I want to let people know that it's OK to feel the way that they do,” Moore said in a video attached to his campaign.

A sample of some of his work can be read at dallasjmoore.com or listened to at indiegogo.com.

The poems have been written and the book is going through a second round of editing. Moore said the funds would be used to compensate editors and artists who have helped with the book.

Moore promises specific gifts for each amount pledged ranging from thank you notes to personal poetry readings by phone.
