Introduction of elected officials in attendance


Speaker: Charles W. Larson, Jr., Former U.S. Ambassador to Latvia from January 7, 2008 to January 20, 2009.Β Β He was appointed by President George W. Bush and sworn in by U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.


Prior to his appointment, Charles served from 2003-2007 as an Iowa Senator and from 1993-2001, he was a member of the Iowa House.Β  He was Chairman of the Iowa Republican Party from 2001- 2005.Β 


As a major in the U.S. Army Reserves, Charles served for a year (2004-2005) in Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom and was awarded the Bronze StarΒ for meritorious service in combat and the Combat Action Badge. While there, he spearheaded the collection and distribution of $100,000 School and medical supplies to the Iraqis. They also built 12 new schools and three water filtration sanitation systems providing clean water to the community for the first time.
