Forum on Hunger, Homelessness on Nov. 12

AMES --- The public is encouraged to attend β€œOne Voice, One Community,” a forum on awareness and action to be held from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 12 at Commons Hall, Bethesda Lutheran Church, 1517 Northwestern Ave. Β The event is being organized by the Story County Housing Board and sponsored by the City of Ames Housing Division.Β 

This year’s forum will spotlight the theme β€œFighting Hidden Hunger A Year Later” and β€œLessons Learned … Homelessness Solutions” in Story County. Β The keynote speaker will be Tony Timm, executive director with the Central Iowa Shelter and Services of Des Moines.Β 

β€œHomelessness and hunger may not be easily visible in Ames, but these issues do exist in our city,” said City of Ames Housing Coordinator Vanessa Baker-Latimer. β€œWhen we support agencies that address these issues, we strengthen our entire community.” Β Β 

The forum is being presented as part of Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week, which continues through Nov. 18. Β 


Other agencies involved in the forum include Assault Care Center Extending Shelter Β and Support (ACCESS), Bethesda Lutheran Church, Emergency Residence Project, First United Methodist Church – Food at First, Good Neighbor, Mid-Iowa Community Action Agency (MICA), Youth and Shelter Services (YSS), Salvation Army, Story County Hunger Collaboration, and Volunteer Center of Story County.Β
