First Planning & Housing Directory Finalist Presentations Monday
Ames residents have the chance to meet Planning & Housing Director finalists

Public presentations have been scheduled for three finalists for the position of Planning and Housing Director with the City of Ames begin 4 p.m. today at Ames City Hall.Â
Chris Shewchuk, of Bellevue, Neb., expected to give a public presentation 4 p.m. Monday, April 15, in the City Council Chambers, City Hall, 515 Clark Ave. Since 2000, Shewchuk has served as Planning Director with the City of Bellevue, Neb. Prior to that, he was a Land Use Planner for the City of Bellevue. From 1991-1997, Shewchuk was a Planner I and Planner II for the City of Lincoln, Neb. He has a bachelor’s degree in business administration from University of Nebraska-Lincoln, a master’s degree in Community and Regional Planning from University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and a master’s degree in Public Administration from University of Nebraska-Omaha. He is a Certified Planner with the American Institute of Certified Planners.Â
Kelly Diekmann, of Sunnyvale, Calif., will give a public presentation at 4 p.m. on Monday, April 22, in the City Council Chambers. Since 2006, Diekmann has served as Principal Planner for the City of Fremont, Calif. Prior to that, he served as Associate Planner for the City of Sunnyvale, Calif. From 1999 – 2002, Diekmann was the Assistant Planner for the City of Medford, Ore. Diekmann attended Iowa State University and earned his bachelor’s degree in geography from South Dakota State University in Brookings, S.D.Â
Scott Allen, of Blue Springs, Mo., will give a public presentation at 4 p.m. on Thursday, April 25, in the City Council Chambers. Since 2006, Allen has served as the Community Development Director with the City of Blue Springs, Mo. Prior to that, he served as a Senior Planner – Long Range with the City of Blue Springs. From 2001-2003, Allen served as Planner/Zoning Administrator with the City of Marshfield, Wis. From 1998-2001, Allen was a Senior Planner – Natural Resources with Scott County, Minn., and a Water Planner from 1995-1998 with the Rice County (Minn.) Planning and Zoning Department. Allen earned a bachelor’s degree in Political Science/Environmental Studies from St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn., and received graduate credit from Iowa State University and Pennsylvania State University in Community and Economic Development. He is a Certified Planner with the American Institute of Certified Planners.Â
