Former Iowa State Basketball Star Tyrus McGee Spent Stolen Cash on Groceries, Police Said
Iowa State Senior McGee admitted to stealing cash from wallet was charged with fourth-degree theft on Tuesday, according to police.

Former Iowa State University Cyclone Basketball player Tyrus McGee was charged with fourth-degree theft late Tuesday, after he was caught taking about $200 out of a wallet left in a University cafeteria area, according to Iowa State University Police.
A wallet was reported missing Tuesday evening and found on a couch in the Hawthorn Market & Cafe, said Aaron DeLashmutt, of the Iowa State University police. Police reviewed video surveillance and saw McGee going through the wallet and taking the money out, DeLashmutt said.
McGee admitted taking the cash and spending some of the money on groceries, DeLashmutt said. McGee returned the other $160 to police, DeLashmutt said.

McGee was taken to the Story County Jail Tuesday, but he is no longer listed as an inmate.
At the close of the 2012-2013 basketball season, McGee led the nation in the three point shooting with a field goal percentage of more than 46 percent.
