Guess Which Grocery Store In Ames is One of America's Favorites

Shoppers heart an Iowa-based grocery store, according to a survey of Consumer Reports' subscribers.

was named one of America's favorite grocery stores by subscribers of Consumer Reports, a publication that reviews and rates a variety of products.

According to an Associated Press report, Iowa-based Fareway joined national chains Trader Joe's and Publix, and Wegmans, a grocer based in Rochester, N.Y., as subscribers favorites. About 24,000 people participated.

Fareway was started in Boone in May 1938, according to the company's website. In 2011, the company opened its 100th location, and has expanded to Illinois, Minnesota and Nebraska, and more store openings are coming, the company's website stated.

Fareway has two locations in Ames. One is and the is in North Ames off of Stange Road.

If you are interested, readers also said a shortage of open checkouts is their biggest complaint, followed by cluttered aisles and out-of-stock specials. And, according to the report, shoppers make an average of 83 trips to the grocery store each year and spend about $5,000.
