Police went to the motel about 4 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 2., after someone reported a disturbance there by calling 911.

As part of the ongoing investigation, police searched Owens' Des Moines home Monday and found a handgun, a release said.

Owens was charged with 11 counts of first-degree robbery, a class B felony, 11 counts of intimidation with a dangerous weapon, a class C felony, 11 counts of going armed with intent, a class D felony, 11 counts of assault while participating in a felony, a Class D felony, and one count of possession of a firearm as a felon, a Class D felony.

Robinson said the multiple counts were related to the number of people Owens is accused of threatening.

A class B felony is punishable by up to 25 years in prison, a Class C felony, is punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a Class D felony is punishable by five years in prison. Owens was currently being held in the Story County Jail on a $805,000 bond as of 1 p.m. Tuesday afternoon.

Neither the Story County Attorney Stephen Holmes nor CMDR. Robinson keeps records but said this case has to rank up there with the greatest number of charges filed in a single case in Story County.

The only kinds of cases that might have brought more charges might have been a car chase where the driver runs through numerous stop signs, forgeries and occasionally drug cases, Holmes said.
