Halloween Events, Pumpkin Carving, The Bright Side Tour, Marsalis and More

With Halloween just weeks away area venues are coming up with some spooky events for all to enjoy.

Weekend events in Ames include hauntings, spirits, singers and more.  

Ames Haunted Forest

The Ames Haunted Forest is open from 7 p.m. to Midnight Fridays and Saturdays and from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Sundays leading up to Halloween. See the full schedule at the Ames Haunted Forest website. The forest is located east of University Boulevard on S. 4th Street. Tickets are $12.

Spirits in the Gardens

Reiman Gardens will celebrate Halloween with craft and activity stations from 4 to 7 p.m. Oct. 20 and Oct. 21. The event is free to children under 18. Everyone else is expected to pay the price of regular admission.

Story County Conservation Halloween Hike

“Iowa Unknowns” will be the theme of this year's Halloween Hike at McFarland Park 5:30 p.m. Saturday. Story County is accepting reservations for its Halloween Hikes through 4 p.m. Friday Oct. 19. The hikes begin 5:30 p.m. Oct. 20 and will run until 8 p.m. A new hour-long hike begins every 10 minutes. The hike costs $3 for 13 and older and $2 for 3 to 12-year-olds. Costumes are encouraged.

Fall Pumpkin Carving Workshop

The Octagon Center for the Arts will host a fall pumpkin carving workshop 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday. Participants should bring their own pumpkins and all other materials will be provided. The cost is $8.

Glass Ball Artisan Workshop

Ciccotti Art Glass Studio is putting on another round of its Blow Your Own Glass Ball workshops. Pre-registration is required. The cost is $30 per person and takes place from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday.

Iowa State Singers Concert

The Iowa State Singers directed by James Rodde will perform 3 p.m. Sunday, at the Martha-Ellen Tye Recital Hall in Iowa State's music building. Tickets are $2 to $5.

The Bright Side Tour

A Hip-Hop reggae, pop-rock duo, David von Mering and Carter Schultz will perform 8 p.m. Sunday at the M-Shop on ISU's campus. Tickets are $10 for students and $15 for everyone else. Tickets cost $2 more at the door.
