Haunted Forest, Halloween Hikes and Trick-or-Treat Hours in Ames

The month of ghouls, goblins and ghosts has arrived here's a few spooky things you can do to celebrate.

Residents in and around Ames can do more than Trick-or-Treat to celebrate Halloween. In addition to many private parties residents of all ages can participate in a tour of Haunted Iowa State, and activites at Spirtis in the Gardens.

Ames Haunted Forest: The Ames Haunted Forest is open from 7 p.m. to Midnight Fridays and Saturdays and from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Sundays leading up to Halloween. See the full schedule at the Ames Haunted Forest website. The forest is located east of University Boulevard on S. 4th Street. Tickets are $12.

Spirits in the Gardens: Reiman Gardens will celebrate Halloween with craft and activity stations from 4 to 7 p.m. Oct. 20 and Oct. 21. The event is free to children under 18. Everyone else is expected to pay the price of regular admission.

Story County Conservation Halloween Hike: “Iowa Unknowns” will be the theme of this year's Halloween Hike at McFarland Park 5:30 p.m. Saturday. Story County is accepting reservations for its Halloween Hikes through 4 p.m. Friday Oct. 19. The hikes begin 5:30 p.m. Oct. 20 and will run until 8 p.m. A new hour-long hike begins every 10 minutes. The hike costs $3 for 13 and older and $2 for 3 to 12-year-olds. Costumes are encouraged.

Haunted Iowa State: University Museums will present its 6th Annual self-guided moonlit tour through the campus' haunted buildings. The tour begins 7 p.m. Oct. 24 by the Campanile.

Teen Halloween Party: The Ames Public Library will host a Teen Halloween Party from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Farwell T. Brown Auditorium.

Trick-or-Treat at the Library: Ames Public Library will offer all the little ghosts and ghouls a free treet from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31.

Trick-or-Treat Hours in Ames: 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31.

Area events

Story County Conservation Beggar's Night: Trick-or-Treat from 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 19 at Hickory Grove Park, 67735, 250th Street, Colo. This event takes place at the Breezy Bay Campground.
