How To Vote Early in the School Board Election

Early voting has begun at the Story County Auditor's Office in Nevada.

Early voting has opened for the Sept. 10 school board elections.

Eligible voters can cast a ballot from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Story County Auditor's Office, 900 6th St., in Nevada through Sept. 9.

People who want to vote absentee by mail should fill out the absentee ballot request form attached to this story. Or download it from the auditor's site.

Voters in the Ames Community School District will elect three school board members. Incumbent Mike Espeset, of Yorkshire Circle, Tim Rasmussen, of Idaho Ave., and Incumbent Bill Talbot, of Bristol Drive, are all on the ballot.

Voters in the Gilbert Community School District will elect two at-large board members.

Sean Barber, of Panoramic Court, and John Nelson, of George W. Carver Ave., are on the ballot.

There are also two public measures on the ballot for DMACC:

DMACC PUBLIC MEASURE A

SHALL THE FOLLOWING PUBLIC MEASURE BE ADOPTED? DMACC Equipment Levy: “Shall the Board of Directors of the Des Moines Area Community College (Merged Area XI) in the Counties of Adair, Audubon, Boone, Carroll, Cass, Clarke, Crawford, Dallas, Greene, Guthrie, Hamilton, Hardin, Jasper, Lucas, Madison, Mahaska, Marion, Marshall, Polk, Poweshiek, Shelby, Story, and Warren, State of Iowa, cause to continue to be levied an additional tax not exceeding six cents per thousand dollars of assessed value in any one year for an additional period of ten years beginning with the tax levy to be made for collection in the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2015, for the purposes of program sharing between community colleges or for the purchase of instructional equipment of the Des Moines Area Community College.”

DMACC PUBLIC MEASURE B

SHALL THE FOLLOWING PUBLIC MEASURE BE ADOPTED? DMACC Facilities Levy: “Shall the Board of Directors of the Des Moines Area Community College (Merged Area XI) in the Counties of Adair, Audubon, Boone, Carroll, Cass, Clarke, Crawford, Dallas, Greene, Guthrie, Hamilton, Hardin, Jasper, Lucas, Madison, Mahaska, Marion, Marshall, Polk, Poweshiek, Shelby, Story, and Warren, State of Iowa, cause to continue to be levied a tax not exceeding twenty and one-fourth

(20 1/4) cents per thousand dollars of assessed value in any one year for an additional period of ten (10) consecutive years beginning with the tax levy to be made for collection in the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2015, to be used for any one or more of the following purposes: for the purchase of grounds, construction of buildings, payment of debts contracted for the construction of buildings, purchase of buildings and equipment for buildings, and the acquisition of libraries; for the purpose of paying costs of utilities; and for the purpose of maintaining, remodeling, improving, or expanding the Des Moines Area Community College (Merged Area XI); or for such other purposes as authorized by law, all as provided in Chapter 260C, Section 22 of the Code of Iowa.”
