UPDATE: Pedestrian's Name Released in Hit and Run

Ames Police watched as a pickup struck a pedestrian in Welch Avenue early Friday. The suspected driver has been charged.

A Kansas City, Mo. man was charged with leaving the scene of an accident and more after allegedly striking a 22-year-old Ames man on Welch Avenue early Friday.

An Ames police officer in the 100 block of Welch Ave., looked on as a truck struck Shawn Molitor, 22, of Ames, about 2 a.m. Friday.Β The black Chevrolet Silverado pickup drove off, but Iowa State University police found the truckΒ in the 200 block of Gray Avenue a short time later.

The driver, Jimmy Tyler Hatley, 24, of Kansas City, Mo. was charged with serious injury by vehicle, a Class D felony; leaving the scene of a serious injury accident, an aggravated misdemeanor; operating while intoxicated, first offense; and reckless driving, a simple misdemeanor.

Molitor was taken to Mary Greeley Medical Center and then transferred to Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines with serious injuries.Β 

Class D felonies are punishable by up to five years in prison.
