Iowa Caucus Winner Rick Santorum to Stump for Iowa Congressman Steve King

Santorum will appear at King's Defenders of Liberty fundraiser in Ames Oct. 19

Santorum, who made a brief appearance at Cafe Diem, while running for president last year plans to help Iowa Congressman Steve King with his campaign for the 4th District.

King faces Ames Democrat Christie Vilsack in the race and recent polls have shown King is losing ground.

Santorum will headline King's Defenders of Liberty fundraiser Oct. 19, a release from King's campaign said.

King said in a prepared statement that the Iowa Caucus winner is a good friend of his.

“Senator Rick Santorum is a close friend. We share the values of family, freedom and faith, which define American liberty. I am deeply honored by his unwavering support.”

Santorum said King has taken on his own political party to defend individual freedoms, according to a prepared statement.

“Steve understands that in order to restore our American Dream we must repeal ObamaCare and replace it with free-market solutions, balance our budget, harness all forms of American energy and create stability in Washington for business to grow,” Santorum said.

The fundraiser takes place 6:30 p.m. Oct. 19 at Hickory Hall in Ames.
