Iowa State Cyclone Recruit Named Michigan Mr. Basketball
Monte Morris of Flint Bleecher High School has been named Mister Basketball of Michigan.
Iowa State just made another NCAA Tournament, but in college athletics the search for reinforcements never stops.
But worry not, some talented help is on the way, as a member of the Cyclone recruiting class just got a nice accolade -- Michigan Mister Basketball.
Morris, who signed with Iowa State, captured the most prestigious award a high school athlete in Michigan can receive in one of the closest three-man races in the history of the award, named for the former Free Press sports writer who covered high school athletics for more than 40 years.Β

He accumulated 2,130 points while Harper Woods Chandler Parkβs Derrick Walton Jr. was second, with 2,086. James Young of Rochester was third (2,030). Detroit Pershingβs Kahlil Felder was fourth (1,252) and Dowagiac's Dontel Highsmith was fifth (1,161).
Morris, 6'1" and 175 pounds, is the point guard on a fine six-man Cyclone recruiting class, that features another highly ranked guard in 6'4" Matt Thomas of Onalaska, WI.

Morris also has some ties with former Iowa Hawkeye Roy Marble, who also attended Flint Beecher. In fact, Marble played a role in Morris landing at Iowa State, believe it or not.
