Iowa State Student Leader Apologizes for 'Hateful and Disgusting' Tweets Towards Elijah Johnson, Kansas Basketball Team
Jared Knight, president of the Government of the Student Body, said students who made racist and threatening comments on Twitter are a "disgrace to our student body."

The president of Iowa State University's student body has issued an apology to the Kansas basketball team, fans and specifically player Elijah Johnson after ISU student made racist and threatening tweets after a controversial conclusion to a game between the two schools
“I apologize to Elijah Johnson, the students at the University of Kansas and anyone else who read these hateful and disgusting tweets," said Jared Knight, president of the Government of the Student Body, according to a report by the Iowa State Daily. "I am embarrassed to be associated with these individuals, and I unequivocally condemn their statements. “
Iowa State students sent out a stream of harsh tweets, including a threat to shoot Kansas players and called Johnson a derogatory racial slur.
Iowa State fell to Kansas in overtime on Monday in Ames.
School officials are investigating the case and if the action is considered a major violation of the school's code of student conduct, they could be subject to suspension or expulsion.
Knight said he believes the students have violated the student code, but does not expect they will be expelled but that suspension is possible.
He said in the Daily report that the incident is a reminder there is "work to do in eliminating racism and violence from our society. These individuals are a disgrace to our student body and our university, and we sincerely apologize to everyone affected by this incident.”
