Kohl's Expects Spring Opening in Ames

Though store officials still won't say so, a Kohl's store appears to be under construction outside North Grand Mall.

The website says a department store will celebrate a grand opening in the spring of 2013 and a sign outside the construction zone states Kohl's will open March 3 and a grand opening is planned for March 6.

Sydney Hofer, Kohl's Department Stores Sr. Public Relations Coordinator, said she still couldn't share any information at this point.

The mall's developer GK Development has been working on improving the mall site and demolished the former Sears auto center, former Wells Fargo, former Walgreens and former Furman buildings and are in the process of renovating the former Sears store.

Late last year officials with TJ Maxx said they planned on opening a location in Ames but would not say where. Demolition of buildings where the new Kohl's store now stands began last spring.
