
AMES, Iowa – After a two-year hiatus, the Ames Citizens Academy is back! Applications are now being accepted for the 2013 Ames Citizens Academy. Through six sessions, this fun, interactive class educates and informs Ames residents about local government. Classes begin Sept. 11 and continue every Wednesday through October 16.
Classes will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in Ames City Hall, 515 Clark Ave. Â Each session begins with a meal, and each class will focus on a particular aspect of city government. Â There will be participation from City Council members, City of Ames staff, and City Boards and Commissions members. Â In addition to learning about City departments, programs, and services, participants will learn about the role of the Ames City Council and opportunities to get involved in local government. Â Class topics include city planning, neighborhood development, finances, and much more. Â

Class size is limited to 25 participants, and Iowa State University students are encouraged to apply!  Deadline to apply is Wednesday, Sept. 4.
