Standoff With Ames Police Ends Peacefully

A man has barricaded himself inside a home in Ames, and police are on the scene. Multiple news outlets are reporting this is not an armed standoff.

A five and a half hour standoff between Ames police and a man who has barricaded himself inside a house in Northridge neighborhood, ended peacefully about 1 p.m. Monday.

Multiple news outlets had reported the incident. 

Weapons are not involved, KCCI-TV and the Ames Tribune are reporting. A message was left for the communications officer at the Ames police department at about 1 p.m.

Ames Tribune is citing Ames police saying this is a mental health situation, and no charges are pending. The Tribune and KCCI both report the incident began last evening as part of a domestic dispute.

Police barricaded Sycamore Road during the standoff, affecting just a handful of residents who had to walk, rather than drive to their homes.
