A Boone man was charged with carrying a weapon while under the influence after Ames police found him passed out in a parked car about 5:30 a.m. Oct. 5.

Vomit on the ground outside the driver's side door and fogged windows tipped off the officer who was planning to write a parking ticket, according to complaints.

When the officer talked to the man, James Stolfus, he couldn't wake him and called for medical assistance, complaints stated. When Stolfus was awoken he told the police that a loaded pistol was in the glovebox. Officers removed the loaded .38 special and charged the man with possession of firearms under the influence, an aggravated misdemeanor; and public intoxication, a simple misdemeanor. Stolfus waived his right to a chemical test, complaints said.
