Meeker Could Become a Blue Ribbon School

Meeker Elementary School was nominated for the national Blue Ribbon School program.

Meeker Elementary School is in the running to becoming a Blue Ribbon School the Ames School District announced recently.

The Iowa Department of Education is allowed to nominate five schools for the U.S. Department of Education's National Blue Ribbon Schools Program award each year.

Meeker was chosen for receiving high scores on the Iowa Assessment.

In order to qualify for the award the school will have to meet achievement standards for Adequate Yearly Progress under the federal No Child Left Behind Act in 2012-13.

Schools will be notified if they win sometime in 2013.
