A regional chain of convenience stores based in West Des Moines will stop taking personal checks beginning July 1.
Kum & Go, which has multiple locations in West Des Moines and throughout Iowa communities, said going paperless speeds up customer service, the Cedar Rapids Gazette reported.

βWe find that checks result in slower customer service and they also lead to greater complexity in our stores,β Kum & Go spokeswoman Megan Elfers said.
Check-paying customers represent only about 1 percent of the chainβs customers, but it will be a βdifficult transition for them,β Elfers acknowledged.
