
A man who bragged about carrying a handgun without a permit didn't get toΒ keep it much longer, according to police and criminal complaints.
Michael T. Balaski, 21, was attending a party when he said that he had a gun in his backpack and didn't realize that Ames Police were listening, police said.

Police were responding to a complaint of a loud party and heard Balaski telling others that he had a gun and didn't need a permit because he bought it privately, complaints said. As he left the party, police asked him about what he had in his backpack and he told police about the gun, complaints said. Balaski was carrying a semi-automatic weapon and a loaded magazine in the backpack, but didn't have a permit to carry a concealed weapon, according to complaints.
Balaski was charged with carry weapons without a permit, an aggravated misdemeanor.
