Police: Man Charged After Saturday Shooting Refused Police Orders

The adult charged after gunfire was heard near Zeke's refused to listen to police even when their guns were draw, complaints say.

The 27-year-old man, charged with interference with official acts after Ames Police heard gun fire near Zeke's, a live music venue and community center, refused to obey police orders even when officers drew their guns, according to criminal complaints.

Desmon Turner, of Toronto Street, was “unruly” and yelled and shouted at police who had arrived after gun shots were heard about 11:30 p.m. Saturday, complaints said. Turner was standing outside Zeke's and Capanna Coffee an artisan coffee and gelato shop.

When police asked Turner to stop he started to walk away and continued to yell even though officers had their handguns pointed at him, complaints said.

Officers used a taser on the man to take him to the ground and Turner continued to resist police after his arrest, complaints said.

Police patrolling the area heard multiple gun shots about 11:30 p.m. Saturday and saw people fighting in and running away from Zeke's parking lot on Lincoln Way.

Two other juveniles were referred to juvenile court for carrying concealed weapon and reckless use of a firearm and a third juvenile was referred to juvenile court for assault on a peace officer, a serious misdemeanor, public intoxication, disorderly conduct and public urination, all simple misdemeanors.
