Police: Man Charged with Forgery for Using Stolen Checks

Ames Police Blotter: July 8 to July 10.

A 22-year-old Ames man could spend 10 years in prison for allegedly cashing and using stolen checks to make purchases, according to criminal complaints.

Ryan D. Peppels, was charged with two counts of forgery, a Class D felony, on July 10, while in jail on other charges, complaints said. Peppels is accused of stealing checks from an acquaintance and cashing it at a Casey's in April and using two other checks reported stolen during a burglary in Boone, complaints said. The checks reported stolen in Boone were used to buy items from Almost Always Open in May, according to criminal complaints. Class D felonies are punishable by up to five years in prison.

Brenda Benavidez, 28, Des Moines, was charged with operating while intoxicated, second offense; and use of electronic communication device while driving at 2:10 a.m.

Zachary Palmer, 18, Hayward Ave., was charged with driving under suspension at 5:28 a.m.

July 10

Ladawn E. Colvin, 44, E. Lincoln Way, was charged with child-endangerment and operating while intoxicated, second offense; at 6:56 p.m.

Draven L. McPeak, 18, Berkshire Ave., was charged with nuisance party regulations at 12:48 a.m.

Ryan D. Peppels, 22, Maple Ave. was charged with forgery Class D felony, at 1:26 p.m.

Jeffrey P. Richardson, 46, Woodstock Ave., was charged with a parole violation at 2:24 p.m.

April D. Smith, 26, Luther Drive, was charged with public intoxication at 5:47 a.m.

Trevor L. Voelker, 20, Maple Ave., was charged with public intoxication and fourth-degree criminal mischief at 12:33 a.m.
