Police Recover Human Skull Near Carr Pool

Police believe a skull found in north Ames is human and sent it to the State Medical Examiner's Officer for further testing.

Ames Police recovered a human skull near the Skunk River in North Ames late Tuesday, according to a release.

A person found the skull near the river just north of the former Carr Pool and called police about 8 p.m. Tuesday. The skull and bone fragment were inches from the river on a sand bar.

The skull appears to be very old and was sent to the State Medical Examiner's Office. Police believed it washed downstream during recent storms.
