Police: Ten Ames Businesses Sell Alcohol to Person Under 21

Ames Police said a recent alcohol compliance check found that 10 of 33 shops would sell alcohol to people under the age of 21.

One of about every three alcohol retailers in Ames will sell alcohol to someone underage, according to a recent compliance check by the Ames Police Department.

Ames police conducted a compliance check at 33 establishments Nov. 8 and said 10 businesses sold alcohol to a person under the age of 21.

The employees at these places were cited for selling alcohol to an underage person, resulting in a $735 fine.
