Police: Woman Charged With Public Intox and Assault in Fight Over Car Keys

A 40-year-old Allerton woman lost a battle against her aunt for her car keys when Ames police arrived to intervene, according to complaints.

Jill Leach, of Allerton, pulled her aunt's hair and punched her in the face in an attempt to take her car keys back from her aunt while they were in a car parked outside a Mortenson Road home about 4:30 a.m. Friday, June 7, according to complaints.

The aunt took the keys because she feared that Leach would drive drunk, complaints said. The aunt also punched Leach during the fight, complaints said. Leach had blood-shot watery eyes, swayed while walking and slurred and mumbled when she talked, complaints said. Leach was charged with simple assault, a serious misdemeanor and public intoxication.
