Progress Iowa, Tax Payers Sing Fiscal Cliff Carols to Latham and Grassley

Iowa taxpayers sang fiscal cliff carols outside Rep. Tom Latham's office in Ames and outside Sen. Chuck Grassley's office in Des Moines over the weekend. They would like to end Bush Tax cuts for the wealthiest 2 percent of Americans.

Members of unions, political tax fairness groups and tax payers all led by Progress Iowa met over the weekend to encourage state representatives and Sen. Chuck Grassley to approve a tax plan that wouldn't extend Bush Tax cuts for the wealthiest 2 percent of Americans.

The group sang fiscal cliff carols outside Tom Latham's office in Ames and outside Grassley's office in Des Moines. (A video of the songs are attached.)

"Each year we remember the holidays as a time of giving, but middle-class Iowans have been footing the bill for tax breaks for the wealthiest two-percent of Americans for too long," said Matt Sinovic, executive director of Progress Iowa in a prepared statement. "That’s why we’re sharing the holiday spirit with Sen. Grassley and making sure he finally asks the wealthiest Americans to pay their fair share."

Congress is still unable to agree on which of Bush's Tax cuts to extend.

Bush tax cuts include: reduced federal income tax rates for everyone, reduced capital gains taxes, reduced tax rates on dividend income, an elimination of the estate tax and a boosted child tax credit of $500 to $1,000 per child.

Economic experts like Erskine Bowles have said if Congress fails to reach a deal before the holiday break that all of the Bush Tax cuts would expire Dec. 31 causing the country to fall back into a recession and that unemployment would jump to 9 percent.

Vote for Income tax equality

Fala lalala, la la la la

Cuts for millionaires are folly

Fala lalala, la la la la

Billions more for them? Outrageous!

Falala, la la la la la la

Treat their cap gains more like wages!

Falalala la, la la la la

The 1% makes more than ever

Fala lalala, la la la la

Time to act! It’s now or never

Fala lalala, la la la la

We’re all for no wasteful spending

Falala, la la la la la la

But give top Bush tax cuts an ending

Fala lalala, la la la la
